During our meetings with clients and training sessions, we are constantly asked the question about the arrival of Artificial Intelligence.  and our constant endeavor has been to simplify the concept of AI for the everyday benefit for everyone.  We also look to tools that use AI and simplify life as we know it. A more detailed video is available from my keynote blog post.

While our team is not new to Grammarly (full disclosure: we were so impressed with its AI capabilities, that we now participate in their Affiliate program. Several links in this article are affiliate links) as a tool, it didn’t quite strike us as an AI-powered tool.  It’s one of the rare instances where a product is so ubiquitous that we overlook its presence.

Several screenshots below are provided for your reference. These are instances of Grammarly in action while I was writing this article.

I have personally used it for quite some time and have been quite surprised on two fronts – One, Grammarly can quite pickup grammatical nuances that are often taken for granted with the spoken word but can cause confusion with the written word.

Two, the tool can pick up errors in a multitude of software where we enter text – word processors, online files, WordPress Editors, the list goes on. and I am constantly seeing its silent presence in many new online applications.

Grammarly does offer a Windows App to upload files and do a thorough check. To be transparent I haven’t yet used it in that form. Nor have I consciously used the Chrome Extension. After my initial registration and chrome addition, I have never felt the need to use Grammarly as a separate app. And that explains the power of its appeal.

As Brad Hoover, CEO of Grammarly recently wrote in their blogWhat would happen if we democratized effective communication?

The internet, and the rise in geographic and professional mobility, helps us connect with more people of diverse backgrounds, but nuances of communication can get lost in the shuffle. It requires talent, skill, and effort to clarify one’s thoughts and feelings and to articulate those in a way recipients will understand.

What if we could harness the power of artificial intelligence to help every English speaker communicate what they mean? What if we could help people truly understand each other?”

I would add how about making it easy to do my job? Like picking up a complex word as below,

Grammarly does allow for documents storage as well. I am sure it will appeal to an audience which needs to have its drafts in one place for all grammar related work.

Some more nice features that need to be used to become better at the English language:

  • Learn from your mistakes with Grammarly Cards. Get comprehensive descriptions and tips for how to avoid similar mistakes in the future.
  • and just about a trick which can be used to, ahem, cheat the system: Add unique words to your dictionary with just one click and Grammarly will remember them forever.
  • allows you to choose from more than thirty different writing styles to keep your writing relevant.
  • Grammarly helps you write with clarity by suggesting alternatives for your overused and repetitive words.

Grammarly has ambitious plans to become a true communications assistant by using Machine Learning and providing suggestions on advanced communication nuances like tone. Clearly, they will be setting a new level of user experience by eliminating the gap between thoughts and words.
