Which ChatGPT plans are there?
ChatGPT comes in personal plans for individuals and business plans for teams and organisations. Prices change often, so this guide doesn’t list them — OpenAI’s pricing page is the source of truth.

Which ChatGPT plan is best for my team?
Answer these six questions and the plan usually picks itself.
- How many people will use it?
- One person → a personal plan. Two or more working together → Business or Enterprise.
- Do you need a shared, admin-managed workspace?
- If someone must add and remove users, see usage and control spend, you need Business or Enterprise.
- What data will people put in?
- Customer, patient, staff or financial data needs agreed rules before anyone starts — and usually a business plan, not personal accounts.
- Do you need single sign-on, provisioning or audit logs?
- Those organisation-wide controls point to Enterprise.
- How does your organisation pay?
- If procurement needs invoices, purchase orders, bank transfer or payment terms, self-serve Business won't work; you need a contracted plan.
- Do you also need the API?
- API usage is separate from ChatGPT subscriptions and billed on its own.

ChatGPT Business vs Plus: what’s the difference?
Plus is a personal plan: one account, one person, paid by that person or reimbursed. Business is a workspace: an administrator buys seats, assigns them to people, sees usage and controls spend, and OpenAI states it won’t train on the workspace’s data. If more than one person needs ChatGPT for work, Business is usually the better fit — and the safer one, because each person has their own seat instead of sharing a login.
ChatGPT Business vs Enterprise
Business is self-serve and suits small to mid-sized teams. Enterprise is arranged through OpenAI’s sales team and is built for organisation-wide use: it adds encryption, retention and compliance controls, centralised visibility and auditability, and contracted terms. Choose Enterprise when security, compliance or procurement requirements — not the number of features — drive the decision.

Sign in at chatgpt.com and upgrade with a card. Suits one person; if it's for work, check your organisation's policy on personal accounts first.
ChatGPT Business
Buy at chatgpt.com with a card, choose Standard or Premium seats (at least two in total), then invite your team from the admin settings.
ChatGPT Enterprise and contracted plans
These are arranged through OpenAI's sales team or an OpenAI partner, who can also help with procurement, rollout and training.
If your organisation can only pay by invoice, purchase order, bank transfer or on payment terms, self-serve Business won’t work. OpenAI directs those buyers to a contracted, sales-led offering.
Mistakes to avoid
Buying from a feature list
Tenders and wish lists often ask for every advanced feature. Map each one to a real task, a real user and the data involved first — most teams need less than the list suggests.
Sharing one personal account
A single Plus or Pro login passed around a team has no individual accountability, no admin control and no data separation. It's a sign you need a team plan, not a bigger personal one.
Letting sensitive data in before rules exist
Decide what can and can't be entered, and who reviews outputs, before usage grows.
Buying before anyone has checked the fit
One seat or a hundred, a short conversation about who will use ChatGPT, for what and with which data prevents the most expensive mistake: the wrong plan, bought twice.
Forgetting the API is separate
Building your own tools on OpenAI's models means an API account and separate billing.

Is ChatGPT Team the same as ChatGPT Business?
Yes. OpenAI renamed ChatGPT Team to ChatGPT Business on 29 August 2025. Seat types and prices have changed since, so check OpenAI's pricing page for current terms.
Does ChatGPT Business need at least two users?
Yes. A Business workspace needs at least two paid seats, which can be Standard or Premium seats in any combination.
Will OpenAI train its models on our business data?
OpenAI states that it won't train on ChatGPT Business workspace data, and that ChatGPT Enterprise business data isn't used for training by default.
Can we pay for ChatGPT by invoice or purchase order?
Not with self-serve ChatGPT Business. OpenAI says organisations that need invoices, purchase orders, bank transfer or payment terms should use a contracted, sales-led offering.
Does a ChatGPT subscription include the API?
No. ChatGPT plans and the OpenAI API are separate products, and API usage is billed separately.
